Vision

WASCAL seeks to become one of Africa’s leading science-based institutions in the provision of climate services in and for West Africa.

Our mission

To provide information and knowledge at the local, national, and regional levels to its West African member countries to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change and devise integrated mid and long-term options to build up resilient and productive socio-ecological landscapes.

General objective

To create an innovative research network to implement climate action in Africa through the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence innovations.

Specifics objectives

  1. Deepen understanding of how to develop and scale responsible AI innovations for climate action in sub-Saharan Africa.
  2. Build the capacity of 10 groups of African innovators and researchers to develop, deploy, and scale responsible AI applications in climate action.
  3. Facilitate the contribution of African research to international AI policy and practice conversations.
